WELCOME TO CAMP Session 5!

Today we welcomed our biggest session of the summer yet to camp! Here is a glimpse at some of their first fun moments at Camp Orkila today:

Raspberries!

Carlea and Kate are super-duper excited about eating fresh raspberries! We've been enjoying them for the past 2 weeks! The bird scares that Tyee's 6th graders made during the spring have worked really well; the birds haven't gotten very many.

We have our first sightings of cucumbers! They're so cute and tiny! Soon we'll have lots! They seem to getting along really well with their sunflower friends. St. Brendan's planted both of these for us back in May.

During Session 2, Mt. O planted a new round of greens. Two weeks later, here they are. Once they get a bit bigger, we'll be enjoying them in salads!

It's Zucchini Season! Everyone at camp better have on their zucchini eating pants. There are many little zucchinis, soon to be many big zucchinis.

Challenge by Choice

"Life is a challenge - meet it!"
Sai Baba

Every moment at Camp Orkila is a time to test one's boundaries and try new things! The challenge tower is the perfect way for absolutely everyone to dream big and climb high. With almost 80 stairs to get to the top it is nothing short of an adventure!

Not even mentioning the zip line one can zoom down, the outdoor and indoor climbing walls present a journey to the top! Overall, adventure is to be had by all at Camp Orkila this and every summer!

SUMMER UPDATE FROM PULLYOU

Former Summer Camp Director Michael "Pullyou" Pulju & former OEE Site Director Kaitlyn Pulju spent a month of their summer traveling around Europe before they moved to Colorado. Whilst in Europe, they embarked on a 4 day canoeing trip in southern France. During this part of the trip they met up with other Camp Staff Alums, Gigi Craig and Rustle Hearn. In the video below, Pullyou and Rustle do their own rendition of the Orkila Orkila Song.

Then after moving to Colorado, Pullyou randomly bumped into Erica Wormley while hiking Grey Rock Mountain. Erica was part of the A-Team staff in 2009, and it just goes to show Orkila Alums are everywhere! It doesn't hurt to wear your Orkila shirts now and then either :)

Knee High by the 4th (or 11th) of July!

The corn was knee high on the fourth, it's now almost up to my shoulder! It's in a bed with pumpkins and beans. The pumpkins are starting to flower and hopefully we'll have giant pumpkins in time for fall festival!

The tomatoes and zucchinis all have little tiny fruits on them! Which is very exciting, soon we'll all be enjoying fresh tomatoes and zucchini! We're starting to get carrots to eat and the radishes, peas and nasturtiums have been going crazy.

So far we've had 10 summer camp units come up to enjoy tasty tours, The Lorax and some weeding in the garden. Today Mt. O planted a new round of greens! We're looking forward to the next 6 groups of Session 2 who are coming up later this week!

WEEKLY QUOTE: In every walk...

In every walk with nature, one receives far more than they seek.
- John Muir

Every Monday (until July when summer campers begin to arrive) an image from the 2010 summer will be posted. This image will be paired with one of the many quotes read during one of the Closing Campfires last summer. Enjoy!
